‘Die With You’ is a call to see the world as it is, an acknowledgement of how difficult it can be to do so, and an expression of wanting life to mean something. It speaks to the inertia and passivity we’re encouraged to maintain in the face of the upside-down-ness of things. And it purposefully places that inertia and passivity in the past tense: the ‘something’ that tried to bury the protagonist — the distractions and compensatory pleasures of modern capitalism — is left behind in favour of a harder but more meaningful path.
